New Build House with Improved SAP Rating and EPC

ATSPACE Ltd was entrusted by another Energy Assessor to take over their longstanding clients as they transitioned to another area of the construction industry. This led us to manage multiple projects on a tight schedule. One of our clients was constructing a new property in Cheltenham and had already received their Design Stage SAP calculations from the previous assessor, which incorporated a Gas Boiler for the heating system.

To enhance the eco-efficiency of their property, the client opted for the environmentally friendly option of an Air Source Heat Pump. However, incorporating new heating methods, especially from different manufacturers, can present challenges during SAP assessments, particularly if the chosen brands are not tested or registered on the Elmhurst database, to which our energy team is accredited.

The challenge we encountered was that the chosen Air Source Heat Pump model was not registered on the SAP database. Consequently, we had to employ a generic equivalent product in the calculations, resulting in a lower SAP rating than desired by the client.

To address this issue, we provided the client with a free consultation to explore how we could improve their SAP rating using a comparable ASHP model. Collaboratively, we worked with the client to ensure the chosen model was registered on the database, ultimately achieving the higher SAP rating they had initially anticipated.

Subsequently, one of our experienced Engineers conducted the on-site air permeability testing, ensuring compliance with the necessary standards. With teamwork and perseverance, we successfully improved the client's EPC rating from a previous C rating to a B rating, exceeding their expectations. This accomplishment left the client extremely satisfied with our services.

Conclusion:

ATSPACE Ltd effectively supported a new build house project in Cheltenham by optimising the SAP rating and achieving an improved EPC rating. By assisting the client in transitioning from a Gas Boiler to an Air Source Heat Pump and navigating the challenges associated with unregistered models, we demonstrated our commitment to providing eco-friendly and energy-efficient solutions. Our dedication, combined with the expertise of our team, resulted in a successful outcome and a highly contented client.
