SAP Testing

SAP testing is one of the many governments’ many compliance tests that you will have to undertake and adhere to. You will need to employ a SAP assessor to carry out the testing for you. The SAP needs to be completed at two stages, the first one being at the ‘design’ stage and the second at the ‘as built’ stage. The design stage SAP will produce an PEA (Predicted energy assessment) and the final results from your ‘as built’ SAP will contribute towards your EPC (Energy performance certificate). As with all these tests it is best to employ an assessor prior to the design stage as they will have the knowledge and skills to point out any problems that may interfere with the SAP Calculation results. This will allow for a smooth running project and save money in the long-term. It will also enable you to benefit from the assessor’s experience and employ the correct systems to pass the test with the highest possible score. A SAP Assessor will work from the architect’s plans and construction detail together with a full heating and air conditioning specification. All thermal elements are added and also all thermal junctions. All renewable technologies and cooling systems are also relevant and will need to be evaluated to gather the correct information to provide the assessment. Due to the nature of SAP Assessments usually being a desk based exercise the Assessor does not (under normal circumstances) need to visit the dwelling.

ATSPACE undertakes SAP assessments on a daily basis and all of their assessors hold the correct accreditation and qualifications to carry out the tests. As previously stated it is always best to employ an assessor at the earliest possible stage to ensure you receive that well needed pass. However, if you find yourself in a situation where you have failed, or you perhaps need a little more guidance then ATSPACE is here to help.
