Why Have a Commercial EPC?

What is an EPC?

An EPC, also known as Energy Performance Certificate, will show how energy efficient your build is. This will show as an energy rating from A-G. Your EPC will also show where improvements can be made. The results shown are the expected results from your build.

Do commercial properties need an EPC?

Yes, you must ensure that you have a valid EPC on display if your building is deemed commercial.

So, if you're looking to:

  • •  Rent or sell

  • •  Construct a new commercial build

  • •  Significant alterations to an existing build

  • •  Change systems, such as the ventilation or heating.

  • But why do you need an EPC?

We are all looking at improving energy efficiency ratings, as well as to reduce our monthly bills. So EPC's should be readily available if you're in the market to purchase or lease a commercial build.

  • The rules with a residential build aren't far different. There are certain types of builds exempt from having an EPC, such as a temporary building used for 2 years or less or a building used for a place of worship or religious activity.
