Why have an air leakage test?

Written by ATSPACE | Apr 12, 2023 3:03:00 PM

Testing for uncontrolled air leaks from inside a building to the outside and from the outside into the interior is known as air leakage. This is brought on by the material or membrane's structure or state, which permits "leakages" from liquids or gases. The rating is then compared to the highest result permitted, as specified in the approved documents. (Part L1A for residential and Part L2A for commercial properties).

You should engage an engineer to provide assistance at the design stage because this test will take place close to the conclusion of your construction. The assessors are properly trained and aware of the best ways to achieve success.  Your home must be as airtight as possible, and much of this will be planned into the construction. If you don't get the right advise early on, you might find that you need to make some pricy adjustments.  If you receive a fail notice, you will be provided guidance on why it happened and what adjustments you might be able to make to guarantee a pass. To finish your build and make sure there are no serious financial repercussions, it is crucial that you stay away from such situations. To conduct Air Leakage tests, all assessors must be properly accredited.

All builds undergo air tightness assessments ATSPACE is one company to carry out such tests, and we are confident that if you were to hire an assessor early in the design process, there would be no issues with air leakage.
