McLaren topped the Contractor League table for December 2022 because of their £90million tower job in South London. The successful completion of this project was a major coup for McLaren and helped establish them as one of the top contractors. In December, the contractor was awarded the project to construct three towers in Croydon's new Leon Quarter - one of four such projects they secured that month.

The three proposed blocks for this development will provide 357 apartments, 31, 20, and 6 storeys tall respectively. The programme for the redevelopment includes the construction of a new public square to host events, and the creation of 12,900 square metres of commercial space. Planning permission for the project was granted in August.

The construction company McLaren was given a £54million job to construct four industrial units near Leeds. In total, these units will be able to cover an area of 60,000 square meters. McLaren has already started construction work on the site, and they are estimating that the entire project will be done by the end of 2023.

McLaren, who cost £187.6million for these two jobs, is nearly £60million ahead of its closest competitor Winvic.

Recently, Mace, a construction company, launched a £120million revamping project of the old Daily Telegraph offices on Fleet Street. Due to this project, Mace has placed itself among the top three construction companies.

Construction workers have already broken ground on the site with the intention of meeting a minimum BREEAM status of "excellent" as well as "platinum" ratings for WELL (health and well-being), WiredScore (broadband connectivity), and ActiveScore (commuter convenience). Construction workers hope to meet or exceed these standards to provide the best possible experience for those who will use the site.

Morgan Sindall, with 20 jobs, significantly moved up to fourth place, more than any of the other top 10 companies. The biggest contract was to rebuild part of Bramcote College in Nottinghamshire, which cost £24.4 million. The contractor will demolish many old buildings and build a new site. The new college is scheduled to open in September 2024.

Balfour Beatty moved up to sixth place in the construction company rankings, largely due to their work on another educational project - the construction of a Lothian primary school, which cost £20 million. It is estimated that more than 500 children from the surrounding area will use the new facility once it has opened and is up and running daily.

Glenigan ranked Buckingham Group 8th, and the main reason for this was their work on a single job – a £62.4m project to construct a data centre in Brent, West London. The project was approved in December.

Kier retained its position at the top of the annual league table with £2.84bn from 185 jobs. Kier is now in second place, with Morgan Sindall in a distant third place, lagging behind by around £800 million.

Winvic managed to move to fourth place in the annual leagues, one place higher than last month's position. Willmott Dixon also managed to improve their ranking by one place, and are now in seventh place.

VolkerWessels was the only new contractor to make it into the top 10 this year, moving up two places to 10th place with a margin of just £1.7 million.
