Energy Statements, or Energy Reports if you prefer, relate to a planning requirement. When building, you must submit an Energy Statement along with your plans to your Local Planning Authority. This will apply to both residential and commercial builds, and will need to be done at the earliest stage of the planning process.
Energy statements or reports show compliance with your local energy efficiency targets. Each Local Authority has its own specific targets, so you need to know what your local Carbon Emissions and Renewable Energy Targets are. This is where ATSPACE can help. We have been dealing with Energy Statements all over the UK, so we already have the required knowledge. Often these targets are set somewhere between 10-19% reduction in energy use.
London can have more stringent targets for Energy Statements. These targets come under the ‘London Plan’. Recent revisions have seen it noted that all major developments within the GLA (Greater London Authority) will need Zero Carbon Emissions.
The main objective of Energy Statements will be to show that your build uses less energy. When planning your build, you will need to consider the materials used, as well as the design. Your build will need to state the levels of CO2 emissions. If these don’t meet the criteria, you won’t comply to the planning Condition.
