We were specifically requested to provide a comprehensive quotation for an exciting new project located in Manchester, which entails the construction of 25 apartments. This ambitious undertaking necessitates a meticulous regimen of air pressure testing, ventilation flow rate testing, and sound insulation testing to ensure final compliance. Our initial engagements involved in-depth discussions with the client, during which we thoroughly examined schedules, objectives, and concerns.
Of paramount importance to the client was achieving the specified low air pressure target and securing comprehensive compliance. This was particularly crucial due to the project's substantial scale, marking it as one of the largest endeavors for the client.
Financial prudence was also a prominent factor in our conversations. The client voiced concerns about effectively coordinating and executing the full array of tests, apprehensive about potential test failures that could lead to rescheduling and additional costs. In response, we proposed a methodical approach to address this challenge. We suggested initiating with a meticulous developmental sampling phase. This preliminary testing stage included the assessment of four apartments, encompassing essential air pressure testing (in line with Part L), thorough ventilation flow rate testing (as per Part F), and rigorous sound insulation testing (in accordance with Part E). The insights garnered from this initial phase would not only provide predictive indicators for the broader project but also enable us to offer informed guidance.
Furthermore, the client highlighted the installation of a system 3 ventilation—centralised continuous mechanical extract ventilation—customised for this site. However, due to the system's assessment at both trickle and boost rates, concerns arose about its compliance. Our adept engineer proactively addressed these concerns.
On the designated testing day, our dedicated engineer arrived promptly, engaging in insightful dialogues with the site team to gain a comprehensive understanding of their concerns. Subsequently, we executed a comprehensive series of tests. This involved conducting four air pressure tests to meticulously assess permeability, precise evaluations of ventilation flow rates in four distinct instances, and the meticulous execution of a comprehensive suite of sound insulation tests. This acoustic evaluation encompassed two airborne wall tests, two airborne floor tests, and two impact floor tests.
The outcomes were a resounding success, delighting the client as all tests were effectively cleared, surpassing even the most optimistic expectations. Beyond the binary test outcomes, our engineer seamlessly interwove a trove of insights and guidance throughout the on-site interactions. Following this, we promptly dispatched the certification documents, solidifying the success of the testing phase. We scheduled the remainder of the testing regimen for a few weeks later.
Our unwavering commitment to excellence radiates through as we adroitly navigate the realms of air pressure testing, meticulous ventilation flow rate testing, and rigorous sound insulation testing – pivotal pillars that converge to shape the project's ultimate success.
